Mazdutide
What it is
Mazdutide is a synthetic peptide analog based on the gut hormone oxyntomodulin. It acts as a dual agonist at both the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor and the glucagon (GCG) receptor, and is also referenced by the development codes IBI362 and LY3305677.
Research context and categorization
Mazdutide is grouped under the metabolic and weight-regulation category of peptides. It is commonly discussed in relation to body-weight reduction and glucose regulation, and it is investigated for the way dual receptor engagement combines two pathways: the GLP-1 arm associated with glucose handling and appetite signaling, and the glucagon arm discussed in relation to energy expenditure and hepatic fat metabolism. Beyond obesity and overweight, it has been studied in the context of type 2 diabetes, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. Outside of its approved indication in China, these uses remain investigational, and any outcomes described in research settings are not confirmed or approved benefits in jurisdictions where the compound has not been reviewed.
Status
- Regulatory status: Approved in China by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), first for chronic weight management and later for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes, and marketed there by Innovent Biologics. Not FDA-approved and not EMA-approved; treated as investigational in the United States and most other regions.
- Sport status: Not specifically listed by name on the WADA Prohibited List. GLP-1 receptor agonists as a class have been placed on the WADA Monitoring Program rather than formally prohibited, so this status can change and researchers should check the current list. The categories to watch are S2 (peptide hormones, growth factors, and related substances) and S4 (hormone and metabolic modulators).
Reconstitution notes (general)
Reconstitution concentration equals the milligrams of compound in the vial divided by the millilitres of bacteriostatic water added. For example, a 10 mg vial brought up in 1 mL of bacteriostatic water yields 10 mg/mL, while the same vial in 2 mL yields 5 mg/mL. A reconstitution calculator is available at our reconstitution and blend calculators to work out concentration from any vial size and water volume.
Dilution and handling notes (compound-specific)
Mazdutide is supplied as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptide powder that is reconstituted with bacteriostatic water before use, so standard peptide handling applies. Vials are commonly encountered in 5 mg, 10 mg, and larger sizes. A working target near 10 mg/mL is frequently referenced, so the water volume is matched to the labeled mass: roughly 0.5 mL for a 5 mg vial, 1 mL for a 10 mg vial, or about 3 mL for a 30 mg vial. A near 10 mg/mL fill keeps the total liquid volume small, though a lower concentration with more water is also workable and can make small measurements easier to read. As a soluble GLP-1 class peptide, mazdutide generally goes into solution readily and should produce a clear, colourless liquid without aggressive mixing. To help it dissolve cleanly, direct the water slowly down the inner glass wall rather than onto the powder cake, then let it stand and swirl gently rather than shaking, since vigorous agitation and foaming introduce shear stress that can damage the peptide. If undissolved material remains, additional gentle swirling and a short rest at room temperature usually finish dissolution. If the solution stays cloudy, shows haze or particles, or discolors, that indicates a problem and the vial should not be used.
Handling and storage
Store the reconstituted solution refrigerated at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius and protected from light. Wipe the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab before each draw, and label the vial with the mix date so the window can be tracked. A refrigerated solution is generally treated as usable for roughly 4 weeks. Discard the vial if the contents become cloudy or discolored, or if floaters or particulate matter appear.
