  • "The preservative is exotic." The additive is just benzyl alcohol, a common, well documented compound (PubChem CID 244). It slows bacterial growth in the vial. It does not sterilize anything and it does not make a reconstituted solution last forever.
  • "Shake hard to dissolve it faster." Bench work on proteins points the other way. A 2018 study found that cavitation and air or liquid interfaces (the kind you create by shaking) drove aggregation, while high shear on its own did not. Adding the water slowly down the vial wall and swirling gently is the safer handling choice for keeping a solution clear.
