Peptide Vial Labels Explained for Bench Researchers

TL;DR

Peptide vial labels state the labeled amount in the vial; divide that amount by your diluent volume to get a concentration, then record it on your own label.

FAQ

What is a peptide vial label?
It is the printed identification on a research vial. It identifies the contents and states the labeled amount of peptide in the vial, which is the starting input for your reconstitution math.
What information do I need from the vial label to use a peptide vial calculator?
You need the labeled amount of peptide in the vial. You also enter the diluent volume you plan to add. Those two inputs give a concentration; an optional target amount lets the calculator work backward.
How do I work out concentration from the labeled amount and the diluent volume?
Divide the labeled amount by the diluent volume. For example, 10 mg / 2 ml = 5 mg/ml. Adding more diluent lowers the concentration; adding less raises it.
Does Sterile Water for Injection, USP contain a bacteriostat?
The Cardinal Health Sterile Water for Injection, USP label says it contains no bacteriostat, antimicrobial agent or added buffer, and is supplied only in single-dose containers. That applies to that product.
Can I see the plunger height through an amber 3 ml cartridge?
Yes. On both our clear and amber 3 ml cartridges, the rubber plunger is visible through the glass and its height can be measured from outside.
Why should I match plunger height between a cartridge and a pen?
Plunger height decides whether the pen's unit scale reads true. Our pens are built for an 11 mm long plunger; a shorter, roughly 8 mm plunger is a different format, and a wrong pairing mis-measures.
What should I write on the label of a reconstituted research vial?
Write the contents, concentration with its unit, diluent used, preparation date and your initials. Use the same format every time so each label reads quickly and consistently.
