A starter kit is a reusable pen, standard 3 ml glass cartridges and a vial of bacteriostatic water bought as one order rather than three. PreppinPeppers builds four, one around each pen: the Gansulin click-dial and the V1, V2 and V3. The kit exists so nothing is missing on the day you start.
Why the three parts ship together
Reconstitution needs three things that are sold separately everywhere: an instrument that meters volume, a container it can drive, and a diluent. Buy any two and the work stops. The commonest version of this is ordering a pen and cartridges, then discovering the diluent is a separate purchase with its own shipping time.
The kits also settle compatibility before it becomes a question. The cartridges in each kit are the format that kit's pen is built around, including the short-stopper cartridges the V1 requires, so there is no fitment decision left to make.
The four kits
The Complete Starter Kit is built on the Gansulin all-metal click-dial pen, and comes in a solo configuration and a double that adds a second pen and a full cartridge pack. Choose it if you want the overdraw interlock and dial-back correction, or if the kit is going to be shared between two benches.
The V1 Pen Starter Kit is the one to take if any single draw needs to exceed 60 units, since the V1 is the only pen here that reaches 80. It ships with a case.
The V2 Pen Starter Kit and the V3 Pen Starter Kit are the 60-unit aluminium options and differ from each other only in the pen: the V2 has an open spring-end that shields the needle area with no cap, the V3 has a clip cap over an updated internal build. Both include cartridges, bacteriostatic water and a case.
When a kit is the wrong purchase
Three cases, stated plainly, because a kit is not always the cheaper route.
If you already own a standard 3 ml cartridge pen, you do not need another one. Buy cartridges and diluent separately and skip the kit entirely.
If you are consuming cartridges in volume, the bulk cartridge packs go far deeper than the quantity any kit includes, and the per-cartridge cost drops with pack size. A kit plus a bulk pack makes sense; a kit as a way of buying many cartridges does not.
And if your protocol cannot use a benzyl alcohol preserved diluent, every kit here includes bacteriostatic water you would not be using. Buy the pen and cartridges on their own and source the diluent your work actually calls for.
What is not in the box
Pen needles are not included and we do not sell them; the pens use a standard screw-on interface. The research material itself is not included, and we do not supply it. What you get is the hardware and the diluent, which is the part that is genuinely fiddly to assemble piecemeal.
Storage once it arrives
Keep the pen and its cartridges dry at room temperature, with cartridges left sealed in their pouches until use. Store the bacteriostatic water at 68 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 25 degrees Celsius), out of direct sunlight, and do not freeze it. Date the water vial at first septum entry and discard it 28 days later.

Is a kit cheaper than buying the parts separately?
A kit bundles the parts into one order and one shipment, and each kit page shows its live pricing in the variant picker. If you already own a pen, or you need cartridges in bulk, buying the components separately is the better route and we would rather say so.
